Dear Friends of the Amazon Rainforest Conservancy (ARC),

Projects and opportunities continue to develop and so we’re heading back to San Martin, Peru. The goal is to move forward with our projects in the cloud forest region of the Amazon rainforest. We look forward to sharing stories, photos and videos with you upon our return. Also, new for this trip, we thought it would be fun to post daily stories of our adventures for those of you who might be interested. Follow our adventure on Instagram and Facebook. We’ll post daily!  Well… we’ll TRY anyway. Internet access in the jungle can be a little limited sometimes.

Regardless, we’re very excited about our trip. Even more than usual! Our intention is to purchase land parcels in the valley between the Cordillera Escalera Regional Park to launch our jaguar corridor project. We are also visiting other land parcels for potential purchase to help create a biological bridge connecting the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area and the Cordillera Azul National Park – two protected natural areas. This will also increase the scope of our jaguar corridor to include a much larger area.

Also on our itinerary is a visit to Orlando Zagazeta. Orlando has devoted his life to the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration and release of wild animals, with a specific focus on primates. Orphaned primates and those that have been seized from illegal circuses, zoos and homes are brought to Orlando who provides them with the necessary care until they are ready to live on their own in the jungle. Since 2006, Orlando has returned more than 1,000 wild animals to their jungle homes! Sadly, Orlando receives no support from the current government which is why we have been asked to help support Orlando and his rescue centre. We look forward to presenting more details about this project to you, our supporters, upon our return!

Warmest regards,
Jana
