Why Leave A Legacy Gift To ARC?

What You Need To Know?

By including ARC in your will, you aren’t just making a donation. Your legacy gift is a commitment to the survival of the Amazon Rainforest for generations to come. And it can be a simple as adding a clause to your Will.

Here are the 3 most common gifts in wills:

Specific Request: You can leave a specific dollar amount to Amazon Rainforest Conservancy.

Residual Bequest: You can leave Amazon Rainforest Conservancy a percentage or the remainder of your estate after other needs have been fulfilled.

Contingent Bequest: You make a provision in your Will that your gift only takes effect if your primary intention cannot be met (i.e. if the primary beneficiary and alternate beneficiaries do not live longer than you)

Here is some sample language: “I direct my trustees to give the sum of $ ___ or ___ % of my Estate (or the residue of my Estate) to the Amazon Rainforest Conservancy to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Other Legacy Gifts

By naming Amazon Rainforest Conservancy as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF, you can contribute the remaining balance of these investments upon your passing. This approach can also help you offset the taxes that would otherwise be payable on these assets by your estate.

You can make Amazon Rainforest Conservancy the beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Exempt from probate, gifts of life insurance immediately go to the organization on your death. You might consider signing-over ownership of a policy with premiums that are fully paid. In this case, you will receive a tax receipt for the cash surrender value.

In addition, gifts of publicly traded stocks and securities can provide a major gift to protecting the Amazon rainforest. The federal government has exempted all gifts of publicly-traded stocks or securities from capital gain taxes, which provides a tremendous advantage if you are considering this.

In consultation with your advisors. You might also consider a Donor advised Fund (DAF) or a Charitable Annuity.

For generations, the Amazon rainforest has stood as an awe-inspiring testament to the magic and power of nature. And we need a healthy Amazon rainforest. It plays a key role in the basic functioning of our planet. As the “lungs of our planet”, it represents one of Earth’s most vital life support systems, producing over 20% of the world’s oxygen and housing approximately 10% of known species.

Sadly, it is under threat and its conservation is more crucial than ever.

As all of us in Canada are volunteers working from our homes, your gift will directly support our conservation efforts in the Amazon rainforest. ARC may be a small grassroots organization but we are mighty! We currently have in our care 1,910 acres of land in two separate ecosystems of the Amazon basin, allowing us to protect a wider biodiversity of plants and animals, especially endangered species.

We understand that your family and loved ones come first. We encourage you to share your intentions with your family so that everyone is on the same page. After that, establishing a legacy gift is easy. Here are 3 steps to get started:

First, work with a financial advisor to determine what you can potentially leave to ARC and what type of legacy gift is best for you.
Reflect on your values and what want your legacy to accomplish. Perhaps you would like to direct your legacy gift to honour a cherished friend or family member who shares a passion for nature.
With the help of your lawyer, create or update your will.
